Eng. Samantha Kumarasena
Chief Executive Officer
He has obtained his BSc (Engineering) degree from University of Moratuwa in 1994; subsequently obtained Masters Degree in the field of Textile Studies and MBA in Management of Technology. He is an experienced Cleaner Production auditor and an Energy auditor. He is a competent Lead Auditor in ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 9001 Quality Management System, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and ISO 50001 Energy Management System. He is in the panel of Assessors for assessing Certification bodies for accreditation for ISO 14001EMS under Sri Lanka Accreditation Board. He is a professional with more than 20 years of experience in advisory, capacity building and performance evaluation of the industries at national and international levels. He is a Visiting lecturer to several universities as well as a resource person in several training institutes in Sri Lanka.
He is a member of the Advisory committee of the Accreditation scheme for EMS and QMS certification bodies and a member of the Advisory committee of the accreditation scheme for GHS V/V bodies of Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB). Eng. Kumarasena also is in National Mirror Committee on Environmental Management Systems, a Member of the Management Systems Certification Committee (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, HACCP& ISO 22000) and a Member of the Advisory Committee on Environment Management Systems Certification Scheme at Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI). He is an advisory board member of Life Cycle Assessment and Design for Sustainability Network (LCADeSnet) and Management Systems Users and Promoters Association of Sri Lanka. He is an Executive Committee member of Lanka Responsible Care Council (LRCC).
Eng. Ruwan Wijemanne
Operations Manager
Eng. Ruwan Wijemanne, has obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) Engineering degree from University of Moratuwa, Masters of Energy Management from Open University of Sri Lanka and Completed MSc in entrepreneurship and innovation from Asia e University.
He is a Certified Energy Auditor, accredited by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and a System development consultant in ISO 50001 Energy Management System. He is also a Level II certified infrared thermographer, an associate professional Green Building Council Sri Lanka (AP-GBCSL) and Corporate member/ Director of Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association (SLEMA).
He has worked as an energy consultant over 10 years and inspected more than 240 factories in major sectors such as Textile, Metal, Recreation, Food, SME and general building sectors. He has also consulted for several non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) power projects in capacity of developing feasibility reports and initial environment examinations (IEEs) for solar, wind, hydro and biomass sector.
Mr. Chamal Manage
Senior RECP Expert
Mr. Chamal Manage serves as a Senior RECP Expert at the National Cleaner Production Centre in Sri Lanka. His academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ruhuna, a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Jayawardanapura, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Science from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He holds the eminent title of Chartered Environmental Professional (CEnvP) under the Institute of Environmental Professionals, Sri Lanka (IEPSL), and has nearly a decade of experience at the Central Environmental Authority.
Moreover, Mr. Manage possesses a remarkable 13-year track record in contributing his expertise to various infrastructure development projects funded by international organizations such as the World Bank (WB), Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and CHINA EXIM bank. These engagements have primarily focused on ensuring compliance with environmental safeguards. In addition to his extensive professional background, he also serves as a lead auditor for ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
Ms. Sanduni Thudugala
Senior RECP Expert
Ms. Sanduni Thudugala is an experienced professional in the field of environmental conservation and management. She holds a First-class B.Sc degree in Environment Conservation and Management from the University of Kelaniya. Over the past twelve years, she has been actively involved in the field, spending most of her career at the National Career of Sri Lanka, where she had the opportunity to expand her expertise at both national and international levels. Additionally, Ms. Thudugala has undergone specialized training in various areas, including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), quantification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions according to ISO 14064 standards and EMS Lead Auditor training.
Within her role at NCPC, she has taken the lead in the Water and Life Cycle Assessment Division. Also she's the project coordinator and Senior Technical Expert for EU Switch Asia funded Project PROMISE.
Eng. M.M. Munsif
Senior RECP Expert
Munsif is an Engineering graduate from Curtin University and is currently reading for a Masters in Sustainable Process Engineering at University of Moratuwa. He joined NCPC in 2016 as a member of the Energy Management team. During his seven (7) years tenure, he has actively engaged in over 200 ASHRAE Level I and II energy audits, RECP Assessments, Energy Management System implementation, and GHG verification assessments across diverse industry sectors including textile & apparel, FMCG, construction materials, rubber, and commercial buildings in Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
He was a key member in project METABUILD (2016-20): an EU Switch Asia funded project in South Asia. He is a Technical Consultant for EU-SWITCH ASIA project “PROMISE” (2021-24) which aims to prevent leakage of wastes into the Lakshadweep Sea from tourism industry in line with Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) approach.
Munsif is a certified Energy Management System Expert by UNIDO. He also holds a diploma in Electronic Engineering and have received trainings in Energy management, Resource efficiency, Life Cycle Inventory database development, Green Chemistry and Eco Label development in Sri Lanka and India.
Ms. Mihirisi Weerakkodi
RECP Technologist
Mihirisi holds a BSc special degree in Agricultural Sciences and Management from Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and has been employed as a RECP Technologist at NCPC Sri Lanka since 2021. Her current role entails serving as a verifier within the GHG Scheme, aligning with the ISO 14064 family of standards.
She has a commendable track record of professional development, including the successful completion of various training programs. These include workshops on CORSIA for National Accreditation Bodies and Verification Bodies in Sri Lanka, training programs on How To Develop A Product Certification Scheme in Compliance With ISO/IEC 17065:2012 and ISO/IEC 17067:2013 facilitated by SLAB, an Assessor training program encompassing ISO/IEC 17029:2019, ISO 14065:2020, and related standards, and a training program focusing on Consultant Development in Quantification of Carbon Footprint based on ISO 14064-1, 14064-2, and 14067.
Mr. Asela Ruwan Kumara
RECP Technologist
Mr. Asela is a graduate of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka with a B.Sc. Special Degree in Industrial Management. Currently, he is reading a MSc. degree in Environmental Management from the University of Kelaniya. He works as a Resource Efficient Cleaner Production technologist attached to the Water Management and Environment Management team at National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka. He has taken part in conducting Water Audits, Waste Audits, and Cleaner Production Assessments. He has experience in conducting local and international training programs in Water Management. He is also currently working on the EU-funded project, Prevention of Marine Litter in the Lakshadweep Sea (PROMISE) project.
Ms. Madhubhashani Weerasinghe
Ms. Madhubhashani, a graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with BSc. Special Degree in Environmental Management and Forestry. Currently, she is following MSc. degree in Climate Change and Environmental Management at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. She works as a RECP technologist attached to the environment management team at the NCPC, Sri Lanka. She has been involved in developing proposals for environmental projects of donor agencies. She is also a lead auditor in the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System. She is coordinating the USAID-funded, GERES Cambodia implemented “Development of Training Courses on Energy, Water Management” Project.
Eng. Akil Haniffa
Energy Engineer
Mr. Akil S. Haniffa is an accomplished Energy Engineer affiliated with the National Cleaner Production Centre in Sri Lanka. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Honors degree and a Master of Engineering (MEng) Honors degree, both specializing in Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Wolverhampton.
Throughout his tenure with the energy team, Mr. Haniffa has actively participated in Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) assessments, energy assessments, compressive energy audits and has successfully being involved in executing the development and implementation of ISO 50001: Energy Management System for numerous industries across a diverse spectrum.
Mr. Krishan Gayantha
RECP Technologist
Mr. Krishan Gayantha, completed his Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours in Mechanical Engineering Technology, BET Hons (Mech Eng) degree from Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka. A member of the Energy Department of National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka. He has engaged in energy audits and resource efficiency audits.
Additionally he is the programme coordinator of the Energy system optimization programme of the Accelerating Industries' Climate Response Sri Lanka (AICRSL) project under UNIDO and is also involved in the RECP Assessments and Capacity Building Training Program project under the Ministry of Industry.
Ms. Upeka Manike
RECP Technologist
Ms. Upeka is a qualified professional with a B. Sc degree in Food Sciences and Nutrition, specializing in Food Science and Technology from Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. She brings valuable expertise as a Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and FSSC 22000 V5.1/ ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management Systems. Additionally, Ms. Upeka holds a diploma in Food Quality Management from the esteemed Sri Lanka Standard Institution, further enhancing her knowledge in the field.
Also, she has undertaken specialized training in Preventive Control for Human Foods through the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance.
